CARMEAR / UNRAVELING
uma performance coletiva de Vivien Tauchmann

“Carmear” ( car·me·ar) is a local term meaning to unravel, to undo the knots of raw textile fibres—it refers to an act carried out by hand. This gesture becomes both method and metaphor in the collective performance that seeks to unravel what is interwoven: the hidden, the overlooked, the ephemeral relations of the wool landscapes of the Serra da Estrela region.
In this participatory work, the body becomes a site of remembering and reimagining. Participants are invited to move through a path composed of several thematic patches, each evoking a different layer of embodied relation: the mechanical rhythms, the knowledge carried in pastoral gestures, the movements of interdependence between species, and a space for reflection in motion.
Guided by sound and movement, Carmear / Unraveling questions the systems that render labour invisible, even as it upholds entire ecologies. It proposes an alternative temporality—rooted in seasonality, attunement, and embodied negotiation with the land. In this shared act of moving and sensing, the performance invites us to reflect not only on the distorting logic of commodified preservation and linear progress, but also on what it means to live in relation—between human and more-than-human life, between past and possible futures.
Led by designer and movement artist Vivien Tauchmann, the performance will create a temporary collective body — moving, listening, and unraveling together.
