Entitled “Here, now: bioregional paths and situated practices”, the Triennial’s international exhibition is a central part of its program. It presents ideas of bioregional and situated design practices through exemplary projects that are considered fundamental to redefining what the discipline of design is today and can be in the near future. A bioregional approach to design understands its territory as an ecosystem in all its complexity. It reconsiders ideas of value, wealth and scarcity; it questions the fate of waste and resources; it rethinks the meaning of productivity and efficiency.

The selection of works is based on the proposals submitted by each of the Creative Cities of Design.
Pavilhão da ANIL
An exhibition presenting projects from the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the Design cluster, which are examples of the good use of design as a tool for social, economic and ecological transformation in the regions around these cities.

Pavilhão da ANIL
Exhibition showing examples of craft production in Portugal, with a special focus on the Beira Interior and Serra da Estrela regions. Exhibition and activities exploring the relationship between textiles and fashion, including fabric creation and prototyping processes. It will also present, in a surgical way, the history of textile creation in the region, recovering some of the historical fabrics that demonstrate the production of local weavers and dyers.
The exhibition will be organized around two main thematic areas of exploration: color and weaving/debossing patterns.

The selection of works will be the responsibility of UBI professors.
Faculdade de Artes e Letras da Universidade da Beira Interior
Mercado Municipal
Exhibition showcasing the work of Fashion Design, Industrial Design and Multimedia Design students from the University of Beira Interior.

The conference will include some of the designers and projects presented at the international exhibition, but it will also bring national and regional cases that allow for an exchange of ideas and experiences on the themes focused on in the summary of exhibitions in the Triennial programme.

New Hand Lab
Experimental design residencies: design residencies, creative work with the community and multimedia. The individual residencies cover the areas of weaving, tufting, textile crafts and fashion, creating relationships between textiles and other media and crossing expressive boundaries. Participants will be guided by in-house experts in these fields. The program takes place before the Triennial and the results will be presented during the event.

The guest designer is Vivien Tauchmann, who lives in Germany and in Turkey. She has a background in Fashion Design and Social Design and her work as an independent designer, movement artist and researcher “centers on the notion that our bodies have a profound effect on the way we perceive others (human and non-human) and act towards them”.

A Transformadora
Burel Factory (Manteigas)
J Gomes
Designer residencies with a strong technical slant, exploring the processes of the host factories (spinning, weaving, dyeing, felting and other finishing processes) in an innovative and experimental way. It also includes residencies at a textile fiber recycling company, including projects to raise community awareness of textile collection and awareness of design processes for recycling.
The final exhibition after the residency period makes it possible to publicize the results and the potential of the companies involved.
The mix of residents will include international, national and regional designers, divided between the three spaces.
